HISTORY OF LINUS TORVALDS
Linus Torvalds is a legendary Finnish
software developer, who was born on December 28, he is known as the creator and
main architect of the Linux kernel, the open source operating system that
powers most of the world's servers, supercomputers and Android devices, his
parents worked as journalists, in his study process he considered himself good
at mathematics and physics but bad at memorizing data. After finishing his
military service he graduated after eight years with a master's degree.
His first toy he got was an electronic
calculator from his grandfather, he used it to find the sine of several random
numbers. He made programs from examples he saw in computer books and magazines
and discovered machine code programming.
The name Linux was taken from its own
name adding the tera x that was taken from MINIX operating system from which it
was inspired, one of the reasons for Linux to succeed and expand around the
world was the creation of free software, Torvalds, did not seek to profit from
this software, thanks to the fact that the Linux code is free there are many
versions of this operating system called distributions, there are for devices,
to perform tasks, for personal use, professional, for video games, for computer
security, and so on.
Linux code, found in almost every
electronic device thanks to its flexibility, is found in small devices as well
as supercomputers.
Beyond his technical legacy, Torvalds
is an inspirational figure for aspiring programmers and entrepreneurs. His
story demonstrates that with passion, dedication and an open approach to
collaboration, it is possible to create ideas that change the world.
